Wingy Manone

Joseph Matthews Mannone, better known as Wingy Manone ( born February 13, 1900 in New Orleans, Louisiana; † July 9, 1982 in Las Vegas, Nevada) was an American jazz trumpeter, singer and bandleader of Italian descent.

Biography

Manone was born in 1900 in New Orleans, Louisiana. At the age of 10 he lost his right arm in a streetcar accident, which is why he wore a prosthetic arm during his stage performances.

After playing with various bands from his hometown, he began in the 1920s to indiscriminately to travel through the U.S. and worked as, among others, in Chicago and New York City. In 1924 he made ​​with the Arcadian Serenaders, formerly " The Original Crescent City jazz musician " called themselves, his first recording before 1927 with his band " Joe Manone 's Harmony Kings " created their own recordings. In 1928, he played in Chicago, then moved to New York, where in 1929 he with the " Benny Goodman 's Boys " took up a plate.
