Wini Shaw

Wini Shaw (actually Winifred Shaw, born February 25, 1910 ( ) in San Francisco; ? † May 2, 1982 in New York City ) was an American actress and singer.

Life

Winifred Shaw, whose birth year is given as 1899 or 1907, was born into a theater family. Their paternal grandparents were from Hawaii and Ireland, mother from Hawaii and England. After starting out as a singer and dancer in vaudeville, she appeared in the Ziegfeld Follies, and came in the 1930s to the Hollywood movie.

Best known for her appearance as Shaw 's Broadway baby in the film Gold Diggers of 1935 ( Warner Bros., 1935), directed by Busby Berkeley. At the Shaw film song sung by Lullaby of Broadway only her white face is shown against a background of black stage curtain in the film initially, while the camera drives up slowly. This is followed by a day in the life of Broadway baby who sleeps during the day and enjoying themselves at night. Also the song Lady in Red was originally sung by Shaw; in the film In Caliente (1935 ), she played the singer Lois. During her time at Warner Shaw was a friend of the actress Ruby Keeler and also worked with her, as in Ready, Willing and Able (1937 ).

During the Second World War she toured with the entertainer Jack Benny for troop entertainment. In the 1950s, she retired from the entertainment business. Wini Shaw was married in second marriage with William O'Malley. Shaw died in Roosevelt Hospital, and was buried in the cemetery Calvary Cemetery in Queeens.
