Winton Dean

Winton Basil Dean ( born March 18, 1916 in Birkenhead, † December 19, 2013 ) was a British musicologist. He was known especially for his research to Georg Friedrich Handel and Georges Bizet.

Dean studied under in Cambridge and became known after the Second World War as a writer on music; First he published some writings on compositions by Bizet (including its own directory to Bizet's works ), but then shifted his focus on Handel and in particular its oratorios and operas. In connection with his employment with Bizet in later years also emerged Essays on the French and Italian opera tradition before Giuseppe Verdi.
