Wire (Band)

Wire (English " wire / line " ) is a band that started in London in October 1976 with punk rock, however, quickly developed beyond that framework.

History

The founding members were the guitarists Colin Newman and Bruce Gilbert, bassist Graham Lewis and drummer Robert Gotobed ​​(Robert Grey ). The guitarist George Gill left the band before the recording of mannequin.

After the contract had expired with EMI, the band was threatened with oblivion. Wire refused long to play popular pieces of their albums live. Wire concerts existed in the late 1970s primarily of improvisations. 1984 but was the music of Wire due to the LP compilation And Here It Is .. Again ..., published by the Duesseldorf-based label Sneaky Pete, increased attention to be divided.

1991 left drummer Robert Gotobed ​​(today: Robert Grey ) the band to work as an organic farmer, whereupon Wire We renamed. Since 2000, the founding members play again under the name Wire. 2004 Bruce Gilbert left the band, and Wire played from now on as a trio. In spring 2012 the band together with Matthew Simms took the plate Change Becomes Us, whose songs are based on musical ideas from the early phase of the band.
