Wireless Transport Layer Security
Wireless Transport Layer Security ( WTLS ) is an encryption protocol for the transmission of data via mobile devices. It is based on the TLS protocol and is optimized for use on mobile devices and wireless networks. The relatively low computing power, the amount of available memory and low bandwidth are the biggest challenges for the use of secure protocols.
WTLS is part of the WAP stack and is, as the name suggests, based on the Transport Layer. It offers:
- Data integrity
- Confidentiality
- Authentication
In version 2.0 of the WAP WTLS has been replaced by the Internet Protocol https.
