Emalahleni (until 2006: Witbank ) is a town in the municipality of Emalahleni, Nkangala district, Mpumalanga Province in South Africa. 2011, it had 108 673 inhabitants.

The economy eMalahlenis based on coal mining and processing. Around the city there are 22 coal mines and some coal-fired power plants. The region is connected by railway lines to the coal loading terminal at the port Richards Bay Richards Bay Coal Line leading.

The first settlers settled down in 1890 on the site of today's Emalahleni. In 1894 the former Witbank was connected to the railway line from Pretoria. Then there was a strong growth of the city, so that they became a town in 1914.

The heavyweight boxer and K-1 athlete Francois Botha was born in the city.

2006, the city was renamed Emalahleni ( isiZulu for, place of coal ').
