With His Hot and Blue Guitar is the first studio album by country singer Johnny Cash. It was released on October 11, 1957 at Sun Records in the production of Sam Phillips. The album was the first LP that ever appeared at Sun. Four songs had been previously published as a single.

Content

The songs deal with topics that were typical for Cash. There are pieces on trains ( rock Iceland Line, Wreck of the Old 97, Folsom Prison Blues ) and convicts ( Folsom Prison Blues, (I Heard That) Lonesome Whistle Blow, Doin ' My Time ). In addition to I Was There When It happenend also Cash's first gospel recording included. The country life is discussed ( Country Boy, If the Good Lord's Willing ), and the album contains ballads about failed relationships and strange love (So Doggone Lonesome, Cry, Cry, Cry ).

I Walk the Line With another song about love is included, which was also Cash's first number-one hit on the country charts.
