The Wittlich Hauptbahnhof station is a through station on the Mosel route. Until the closure of the railway line Wengerohr - down and the railway line Wengerohr - Bernkastel -Kues he was a separation station and regional railway hubs, today he is the only railway station in the town of Wittlich.

The station is located in the district Wengerohr the town of Wittlich in Rhineland -Palatinate and contributed to 27 September 1987 Station name Wengerohr. The station is one of the least frequented daily railway stations in Germany with two intercity train pairs.

History

The Mosel route was built 1874-1879 from Koblenz to Trier. Due to the strong meandering of the Middle Mosel, had left the Moselle River valley Punderich and built the track in a relatively straight path through the Wittlicher valley to Trier. Regardless of the name resulted in the route past the town of Wittlich, it was the formerly independent city Wengerohr with the opening of the Mosel route the Wengerohr station.

By the route away from the Mosel many wine villages were not connected to the railway network. Thus one individual places with branch lines began to open up in the following year. Already in 1883 was completed by Wengerohr station from a spur line to cues. This followed the course of the Lieser, which opens in the same community Lieser in the Mosel.

To connect also Wittlich to the railway network, was built shortly after the Wengerohr station from another branch line, which was then opened on April 11, 1885 together with the Wittlich train station. This branch line was 25 years later part of the railway line from Daun. Even after the Binding to Eifelquerbahn the traffic on the southern section between Wengerohr and Wittlich was considerably stronger than in the rest of the way.

The city was incorporated Wengerohr to Wittlich on 7 June 1969, notwithstanding the station was not renamed. Even after setting the movement of persons between Wittlich and Daun on 1 November 1981, and between Wengerohr and Bernkastel -Kues on June 2, 1984, the station retained its importance as a link between the branch line to Wittlich with the Moselle route. To celebrate this, the station received on September 27, 1987 the name Wittlich main station and the old train station Wittlich Wittlich train station now (city) was called.

The setting of the passenger traffic on the last remaining stretch, between the new Central Station and the city's train station, just a year later on 25 September 1988 was all the more surprising for the population.

Current situation

With the closure of the railway line Wengerohr - down the train station Wittlich (city) and the breakpoint Wittlich- Grünewald were closed. Since then Wittlich main station is the only station in the town of Wittlich, thus the name " Central Station " actually ceases to exist.

From the road to down since the construction of a gyroscope exists on the main road 50 only for about 1 kilometer long track, the route to Bernkastel- Kues is completely dismantled.

Internally, the station has a high importance to the Mosel line since 8:45 clock the remote control center Wittlich Hbf was put into operation on 16 January 1995. From here, be in a remote location:

Since May 2011, the platforms will be completely renewed, having already around 2005, a new access from the east side is formed with lift and ample parking. This work should be completed by 2013. The platforms will then be accessible. The old, low platforms, stairs and roofs were torn off. The station has the only one in the district nor a ticket office. A few years existing direct ICE connection via Cologne to Berlin no longer exists since the timetable change in December 2011.
