Władysław Czachórski

Ladislaus of Czachorski (Polish: Władysław Czachorski, read Wuadisuaf Tschachurski ) ( born September 22, 1850 in Grabowczyk near Lublin, † January 13, 1911 in Munich) was a Polish Academic painter.

1866-1867 He studied in the Character class in Warsaw with Rafał Hadziewicz, then 1868 in Dresden, from 1869 to 1873 in Munich. 1874-1877 he visited Italy and France. In 1879 he settled in Munich, where he was soon recognized as a portrait painter of the wealthy Munich bourgeoisie. He was representative of the late nineteenth painting the Munich Piloty school. He received an honorary professorship from the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. In 1893 he was awarded the Order of St. Michael.

He painted mainly genre scenes, portraits and still lifes as well as images on Shakespeare's plays, in the style of Gerard ter Borch. His painting showed no influence of contemporary trends, marked by a photographic precision. He repeated a couple of outstanding images repeatedly with minor changes.

The art critics accused him of the banality of his works.
