Władysław Szafer

Władysław Szafer ( born July 23, 1886 in Sosnowiec, Poland, † November 16, 1970 in Kraków ) was a Polish botanist and ecologist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Szafer ".

Life

Szafer first studied botany at the University of Vienna and then at the University of Lemberg. From 1917 he was professor at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. From 1936 to 1938 he was president of this university. In 1962 he was awarded an honorary doctorate. Szafer was a botanist with a very broad spectrum of research. Focus was in the paleobotany, plant geography, floristics and environmental sciences.
