Wleń

Wleń [' vlɛɲ ] ( German Lähn ) is a city in the powiat Lwówecki in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Poland. It is also the seat of the homonymous urban and rural community.

Geography

Wleń lies on the River Bober, 15 km south-east of the county town of Lwówek and 15 km north of Jelenia Góra.

Timber industry and tourism ( health resort ) are the main sources of income. Previously, the famous pigeons market was held.

History

It was founded in 1214 today Wleń of Henry I and his wife Hedwig. Above the town towers the castle destroyed in 1646 Lehnhaus. Below the ruins were the Hedwig Chapel of 1662 and the Baroque castle and park. The city was located until 1945 in the Lower Silesia region Lowenberg and came after the end of World War II to Poland.

From 1975-1998 Wleń belonged to the Province of Jelenia Góra.

The community Wleń has a children's garden ( przedszkole ) two elementary schools ( szkoła podstawowa ) and a middle school.
