WÅ‚odzimierz Spasowicz

Włodzimierz Spasowicz ( born January 16, 1829 in Rzeczyca ( Minsk province ); † October 27, 1906 in Warsaw) was a Polish legal scholar, defense lawyers and literary historian.

Spasowicz studied in Saint Petersburg the rights to 1862 was professor of criminal law at the university there, then there lecturer at the law school. However, due to his " textbook of the Criminal Law" (Petersburg, 1863, in Russian), he lost this job and worked since 1866 as a renowned lawyer in Petersburg, mostly known for his appearance as a defender in the treason and Nihilistenprozessen. Spasowicz was since 1876, editor of the Warsaw monthly " Ateneum ", " Slavic literatures history " of Pepin wrote in the corresponding part of the Polish literature ( German, Leipzig, 1883) and has written numerous monographs on this subject. Spasowicz is regarded as the head of a party which strove for a Polish- Russian agreement on a liberal basis; for he wooed by name, but with little success, in 1883 he founded the Polish weekly " Kraj ", which appeared in St. Petersburg.
