Wolaytta (also: Welamo ) is a omotische language, which belongs to the northern branch of this language group.
It is spoken by about 1.2 million people in Ethiopia (as of 1998 ), making it next to the ( also nordomotischen ) dialect continuum Gamo - Gofa - Dawro one of the two most widely spoken languages within the omotischen group.
Welamo was the official language of the kingdom Wolaytta.

The Wolaytta has the basic word order subject-object - verb ( SOV ).
