Wolfgang Warnemünde

Wolfgang Warnemünde ( born May 8, 1953 in Greve mills ) is a former German athlete who - starting for the GDR - at the European Championships in 1982 winning the bronze medal in the discus throw.

In addition to the discus throw, he was also active in the shot put. At GDR championships 1977 he was runner-up with the discus and fourth in the shot put. In the Universiade in the same year he won the bronze medal in both disciplines. In 1978 he was again runner-up in the GDR discus and qualified for the European Championships in Prague, where he finished in eighth place ( 61.28 m - 61,14 - 60.12 to 60.56 - invalid - invalid).

Warnemünde's biggest success was the third place at the European Championships in 1982 in Athens (invalid - 61.20 to 62.20 - 62.76 to 64.20 m - 63.40 ) behind Imrich Bugár from Czechoslovakia and Igor Duginez from the Soviet Union. He was also in this year and in 1984 again GDR runner-up.

His personal best in the discus throw was 67.56 meters in the shot put at 19.92 meters, both distances he scored in 1980.

Wolfgang Warnemünde belonged to the SC Empor Rostock. In his playing days he was 2.02 meters tall and weighed 117 kg. In the becoming public knowledge after the fall of documents to the state doping in the GDR was found in the doped athletes also the name of Warnemünde.
