Wolfgang Wiegard

Wolfgang Wiegard ( born February 17, 1946 in Berlin) is a retired since May 2011 Professor of Economics at the University of Regensburg. He was (also called "The Five Wise Men," ), which he chaired from April 2002 to March 2005 Member of the Advisory Council on the Assessment of economic development.

Curriculum vitae

After the final examination for economists at the University of Heidelberg in 1972, he received his doctorate in June 1977 Dr. rer. pol ( summa cum laude). In December 1981, he qualified as a professor of Economics, whereupon the winter semester of 1982/83 was followed by a teaching post at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg. In 1984, he finally completed a research fellowship at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario.

From 1985 to 1994 he held the Chair of Economics, especially Public Finance, at the University of Regensburg. Since that time, he is also Liason Friedrich- Ebert -Stiftung. In the winter semester 1988/89 he was a visiting professor at the University of Vienna in 1989 at the CRC 3, University of Frankfurt am Main. Between 1989 and 1997 he was also co-editor from 1997 to 2001 Editor of the Financial archive.

Since 1990 he is member of the Scientific Advisory Council to the Federal Ministry of Finance, a professor at the Free University of Berlin, he refused in 1991 from from 1994 to 2002 he was a member (Chairman 1997-2001 ) of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Institute for Economic Research in Berlin.

From 1994 to 1999 he was Professor of Economics I, in particular Finance, at the University of Tübingen, he is since 1996 member of the Scientific Council of the Center for Economic Studies ( CES) in Munich.

From 1997 to 2002 he was a member of the General Board of the Association for Social Policy until 1999 member of the Committee economics of the Advisory Council for Science and Higher Education questions the Bavarian State Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Art.

Since 1998 he is member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Socio -Economic Panel ( SOEP), Berlin, since 1998 he is member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Association ecological tax reform. From 1999 he held the chair of economics at the University of Regensburg IV held until he retired in May 2011.

2000-2002 he was Chairman of the DFG Committee Economics, from 2001 until 28 February 2011, he was a member (Chairman 2002-2005 ) of the Advisory Council on the Assessment of economic development, since 2001, a research professor at the German Institute for Economic Research in Berlin (DIW Berlin) and since 2003 a full member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences - Faculty of historical class.

Since October 2009 he is also a member of the "Council of Real Estate ". He is also an associate member of the real estate IREBS Institute at the University of Regensburg.

Wolfgang Wiegard is a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany ( SPD). He sees himself "as clear neoclassical economist "; it represents mostly economic positions that are attributable to supply-side economics. His research interests are generally public finance, social policy and Numerical equilibrium models.
