Women in Jazz
Women in Jazz is the name of several concert series in which exclusively jazz musicians occur. The festival is held in Halle ( Saale ) each year.
Conception of the festival
The March 20, 2005 is regarded as founding the Women in Jazz Festival. After a preparatory period of eleven months, started on 2 February 2006, the first three-day festival in Halle. Motivation for this Jazz Festival is that the jazz scene has been dominated by the turn of the millennium also by large artists. This jazz musicians have come in the past two decades more into the center of the jazz interest. To the dominant position of women in the vocal jazz additionally gets even their emancipation in the instrumental jazz. This development carries the festival content invoice. The organizers of the festival want to present by jazz musicians Jazz certain projects at the festival. Of course, as well as cooperation with male jazz musicians will be presented at the festival. The festival makes reference to several U.S. concert series with a similar intention, namely the Women in Jazz Association in Austin, Texas (since 2003), the Women in Jazz South Florida ( since 2007), the Women in Jazz Inc. New York City (since 2009) and the Washington Women in Jazz Festival at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC (annually since 2010).
