World Dance Sport Federation

The World DanceSport Federation ( WDSF, engl. " World Dance Sport Association"), until June 19, 2011 International DanceSport Federation ( IDSF ), is one of the world's two authorities of dance sport and wheelchair dance. Its president is Carlos Friday, her office is located in Sant Cugat del Vallès, Spain. The German Dance Sport Federation is a member of the WDSF.

The WDSF has been recognized since 1997 by the International Olympic Committee ( IOC) and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC ). She is a member of the General Association of International Sports Federations ( GAISF ), the International World Games Association ( IWGA ) and the Association of the IOC Recognized International Sports Federations ( ARISF ).

The WDSF went in 1990 from 1957 in Wiesbaden, founded the International Council of Amateur Dancers ( ICAD ) out. The association now has 86 national member associations on five continents. 62 of these associations are recognized by their National Olympic Committees. The WDSF represents more than four million athletes. It seeks to establish dancing as an Olympic sport. The dance sport participated in Duisburg in the medal program at the 2005 World Games.

Disputes with the WDC

With the election of the new president Carlos Friday the WDSF 2006 claimed the sole authority in dance sport in itself. The article takes a closer look a World Dance Council on the resulting dispute with the rival World Dance Council (WDC ).
