World Human Powered Vehicle Association

The World Human Powered Vehicle Association ( WHPVA ) was established in the USA under the name of International Human Powered Vehicle Association ( IHPVA ) 1976. She was initially an association of national associations exclusively for muscle-powered vehicles and other international members.

In 1998, the U.S. Club HPVA split off from the IHPVA and entered 2004 from this. In the context of a dispute over the name of the home side's HPVA ownership of the domain ihpva.org taken and she now leads since 2008 even the name of the International Human Powered Vehicle Association ( IHPVA ), while the original bearer of the name perforce had to find a new name and since then, World Human Powered Vehicle Association ( WHPVA ) calls.

The WHPVA / IHPVA published a printed scientific journal Human Power, establish an online journal Human Power eJournal. Tasks of both the IHPVA and the WHPVA are in control, verification and recognition of records, preparation of the competition rules, schedule coordination of championships and exchange of information. Today's IHPVA makes this especially on the American continent; the WHPVA more on the European continent, where Australia and Asia are included where possible.

Between the American HPVA / IHPVA and international IHPVA / WHPVA there for ten years and always conflicts over race categories, records and copyright issues.
