World Latin Dance Champions

The world championships in the Latin American dances are performed separately for amateurs and professionals.

Professionals

The World Championships of professionals in the Latin dances are held since its organization by the International Council of Ballroom Dancing ( ICBD ) in 1959, a year in the last quarter of the year. The ICBD has since been renamed the World Dance Council, representing all the major countries that are actively involved in professional dancing.

The professional world champion in 1999-2007 Bryan Watson and Carmen Vincelj, ended their active dancesport career in May 2007. You are after Donnie Burns and Gaynor Fairweather the most successful Latin Dance couple of Professionals. The current professional world champions Riccardo Cocchi & Yulia Zagoruychenko are from the United States of America.

Amateurs

The World Championships of amateurs in the Latin dances are performed by the World DanceSport Federation ( WDSF ).
