World Nuclear Association

The World Nuclear Association ( WNA ) is accredited at the UN international non-governmental organization based in Westminster ( UK), which was founded in 2001 as a successor to the Uranium Institute. The aim of the organization is to promote the peaceful use and, accordingly, the construction of nuclear power and the support of the enterprises of the nuclear industry.

Membership

The members of the World Nuclear Association, come from all levels of the production process, for example, from uranium mining, uranium enrichment, nuclear fuel production, reprocessing, disposal, the power industry and energy utilities. Furthermore, companies can choose from other areas that are related to the value chain in the context, become a member of the organization.

The members represent around 90 percent of the world's nuclear power generating capacity. In addition, are the states in which the members are established, for 80 percent of the world population.

In addition to companies and organizations based in the OECD countries, the World Nuclear Association is trying to win increasingly companies and organizations from non-OECD countries, including by discounting the contributions.

For non-profit organizations, scientists, politicians and authorities, there is also a reduced membership fee.

Leaders

The WNA members appoint a Director General (English Director General ) and select a 18 member board of comprehensive management. This is responsible for control and compliance with the statutory requirements. In addition, the Board of Management develops principles and strategies that are confirmed by the members.

Director General since January 1, 2013 Agneta Rising. She was previously Chair of the Uranium Institute (2000-2001), Chairman of the Board of Management (2001-2002), and is responsible for the nuclear activities at Vattenfall.

Tim Gitzel, CEO of Cameco is currently Chairman of the Board of Management. The Deputy Chairman is the former CEO of Areva GB, Jean -Jacques Gautrot.

Activities and programs of the World Nuclear Association

Cooperation in the nuclear industry

An essential role of the World Nuclear Association is the promotion of economic cooperation between members.

The current working groups consisting support from the institutional members and the Secretariat of the World Nuclear Association, distribute information and analyzes development in the fields of technology, trade and environmental issues.

At the meeting of members at meetings and conferences relating to the commercial use of nuclear energy, everything is trying to avoid giving the impression of a cartel formation, for example, price-fixing in recycled uranium or capital goods. Accordingly, the contract details of current or planned projects, the division of markets, the refusal of producers or consumers or the obvious issues are not discussed at the meeting.

Events

World Nuclear Association Annual Symposium

The World Nuclear Association Annual Symposium will be held in London since 1985. Launched it was the Uranium Institute, the predecessor of the World Nuclear Association. During the symposium, also awarded since 1985 Award Gold is (English Distinguished Contribution to the Peaceful Worldwide Use of Nuclear Energy), the World Nuclear Association awarded Medal for Excellence for the peaceful worldwide use of nuclear energy. In addition to the symposium in London will be held two more, since 2013 in India and since 2011 in China.

World Nuclear Fuel Cycle Meeting

Together with the U.S. lobby group Nuclear Energy Institute hosted the World Nuclear Association, the World Nuclear Fuel Cycle meetings. At this event, companies and institutions that are active in the areas of nuclear fuel and uranium market and publish meeting.

Women in Nuclear Global

Women in Nuclear Global was founded in 1993 from the World Nuclear Association out. Currently, over 2000 members from 60 states in the non-profit organization. Men can also members of Women in Nuclear Global are, however, the majority of members are women from the fields of science, uranium mining, power plant operators, nuclear medicine and other organizations such as the IAEA.

Women in Nuclear Global is led by an elected board of directors. Part of Finance is supported by the World Nuclear Association. Women in Nuclear Global promotes the dissemination of information on nuclear technology and the impact of radioactive radiation. In addition, Women in Nuclear Global promotes its members through conferences and career opportunities in the nuclear industry.
