World Taekwondo Federation

The World Taekwondo Federation ( WTF ) was founded on 28 May 1973 and has its headquarters in Seoul.

The WTF part 204 (as of March 2013) to national organizations with over 30 million members. The WTF could reach that Taekwondo was recognized on September 4, 1994 as an Olympic sport. The Summer Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 were the first to which she was allowed to participate in the medal table and officially entered after Taekwondo was represented at the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 and Barcelona in 1992 as a demonstration event.

The WTF is since 1975 a member of SportAccord (until 2009 GAISF ) and was recognized in 1980 by the IOC. It is in competition founded in 1955 International Taekwondo Federation. It is not to be confused with the World Taekwondo Headquarters ( Kukkiwon ).

WTF President since 2004 of the Koreans Choue Chung -won, its predecessor was 1973-2004 Kim Un -yong. Secretary General of the WTF is Yang Jin -suk.
