Worldwide LHC Computing Grid
The LHC Computing Grid ( LCG) or Worldwide LHC Computing Grid ( WLCG ) is the worldwide distributed computing and storage network for the experiments at the Large Hadron Collider.
Its purpose is to provide the participating in the experiments scientists the necessary computing power and storage capacity available in order to analyze the enormous amount of data, which are collected at the detectors of the accelerator can.
In contrast to supercomputers or typical data center for high performance computing, the LCG is however constructed according to the paradigms of grid computing, ie in particular decentralized and non - strictly homogeneous.
