WORM (Rotterdam)

WORM in Rotterdam (The Netherlands ) is a multimedia center for different game types of music, radio plays, film, media art, performance and computer art outside the mainstream, the "Institute for avant-garde recreation " ( " instituut voor avant-garde recreatie " ) calls itself. Almost every day concerts, film screenings, performances and actions, discussions, information evenings and workshops. In addition to public events to WORM include various do-it -yourself workshops: the CEM studio for electronic music, which includes a special and rare collection of analog synthesizers (such as the ARP 2500 and a collection of experimental musical instruments of Yuri Landman ) the Filmwerkplaats - a laboratory and production space for experimental 8 - and 16- mm film - the hacker Medialab MODDR. All workshops have an artist-in -residence program.

Since summer 2011, WORM is the Boomgaardsstraat 71 in Rotterdam city center. The interior was designed by Atelier van Lieshout and 2012Architecten and built of industrial waste. Attached are a café, which is open to the concert audience during the concerts, and the WORM.shop, a plate and bookstore. The facility is supported by the Dutch Ministry of Culture and the City of Rotterdam.

History

In 1999, WORM clear from Dodorama, a stage for improvised music, and the Underground Cinema Popifilm. WORM is now the most important Dutch venue for experimental music with 100-150 performances a year. The music ranges from improvised music, new music, punk and noise to Gabber and cumbia. Since 2009 WORM is also one of ten nationally funded facilities for digital media culture ( "e - cultuur " ) of the Netherlands. In WORM inter alia, Lightning Bolt, Melt Banana, Pierre Bastien, Action Beat, Zach Hill, Silver Apples, Rhys Chatham, Morton Subotnick and Holger Hiller occurred.
