Wörner (Alps)

The Wörner from Geroldsee

Hochkarspitze (left) and Wörner from north

The Wörner is a 2474 m above sea level. A. high mountain in the Karwendel on the border between Bavaria and Tyrol. It is located in the northern Karwendel chain coming pivoted around to the east on Wörner from the southwest. The northwest ridge of Wörners is quite distinctive and easily recognizable by many other peaks in the region.

The first ascent was probably in 1853 when the Austrian triangulation of the South ( Karwendeltal, Großkar ); later by Hermann von Barth ( 1870), also from the south ( II, fragile, last exposed ).

Today, the mountain is usually climbed by the west flank. The normal route starts on Wörner saddle (1989 m), ( 1623 m) or, alternatively, the club - Alm is from the middle of the forest on the highland hut (Bicycle Depot to 1430 m): first unschwieriger, but long and steep climb through rocky terrain, from a crossing at 2330 m, a climbing section ( II ), partly somewhat exposed.

A number remaining in the rock hooks shows that in the past fall hazard climbing sections were insured by rope railings in inspections by military units of the Mittenwalder Mountaineer. For a long time the way was marked only by Steinmandl and some arrows, and the orientation was particularly difficult in the descent. Since 2002, however, the path is well signposted.

From the summit you overlook the Karwendel valley and the Hinterautal - Vomper chain of the Pleisenspitze to Birkkarspitze; in the north are very close to the Schöttelkarspitze and Soiernspitze, thus far vision is limited in this direction.

Trivia

On 9 July 1985, the then Minister of Defence Manfred Wörner ascended accompanied by Mittenwalder army guides the summit of his name.
