Wosret

Wosret, also Useret or Usret. In some literature it is (wrongly) equated with Waset. Her name means The Mighty, The Strong.

Importance

Wosret was worshiped during the Middle Kingdom in Thebes as the protectress of the young Horus and is therefore regarded as the Egyptian patron goddess of youth. It is regarded as a forerunner of the goddesses courage ( as the wife of Amun ), or Hathor. The ancient Egyptian name of several pharaohs was " Se -en- useret " (man of Useret ), in the Greek translation Sesostris (see Sesostris I ).

The goddess is assigned to the Greco - Roman period. Mostly as a surname for a variety of female goddesses.

Representation

Iconography, it is presented as an armed cat goddess with two knives, or even as a lion-headed serpent.
