Wreckless Eric

Wreckless Eric (born Eric Goulden, born May 18, 1954 in Newhaven (East Sussex ) ) is an English rock singer who moves musically between punk, pub rock and new wave. Characteristic of his pretty easy knit, but very catchy songs is his pronounced Cockney accent.

He began his career in the late 1970s as one of the artists of Stiff Records. This label was with artists such as Ian Dury, Madness, Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe and one of the pioneers in the renovation of the British pop music. His debut single Whole Wide World / Semaphore signal ( 1977) was produced by Nick Lowe, who also played bass, and Ian Dury hit on the drums. Although Wreckless Eric never had a significant hit, but made with its chaotic concerts he often gave in of drunkenness state talked about. After 1980 his brave Big Smash -titled fourth solo album and was not a commercial success, he withdrew temporarily from the music business.

In 1984 he founded with former band members Ian Dury's band the Captains of Industry who do not also have been successful with their only studio album. In 1986 he founded with former musicians of the Len Bright Combo milkshakes, but he also broke up after two unsuccessful albums. Meanwhile, his drinking had increased. He retired to France, where, as he wrote on his former website, a " career as a full-time alcoholic" pursued. After a few years in France, he composed himself again, however, and formed the band Le Beat Group Electrique, whose three albums though were much poporientierter as his projects before, but were only moderately successful.

In 1998 he returned to Britain. In 2004 he published his autobiography, A Dysfunctional Success - The Wreckless Eric Manual (Eng. " A Dysfunctional Success - The Wreckless Eric Manual").
