The WWE World Heavyweight Championship ( WWE to German World Cup in the heavy weight) is the most important wrestling title WWE and will be awarded to individual wrestler. The title was introduced through various stages in April 1963, when the then- NWA NWA Affilate Capitol Wrestling Federation from the parent National Wrestling Alliance severed and was organized in the new banner World Wide Wrestling Federation.

The title changed quite a few times between the two wrestling shows Raw and Smackdown, primarily due to the WWE Draft, as the line-up change is called in the WWE.

Because of its history as the main title of the promotion, this title is now considered one of the most prestigious title in wrestling. As in Wrestling common practice the allocated according to a predetermined storyline.

History

The WWE Championship was originally the World Wide Wrestling Federation ( WWWF ) World Heavyweight Championship. In 1973, the WWWF again joined the National Wrestling Alliance, thus the title lost the World status because the NWA auskämpfte their titles only within the United States.

1979, the WWWF renamed in World Wrestling Federation (WWF), which also is the name of the title changed to " WWF Heavyweight Championship ". In 1983, the WWF, the National Wrestling Alliance left again, so the title was returned to the status of a World Cup and again became the WWF World Heavyweight Championship.

Since the Attitude Era of the WWF from 1997, the title only WWF Championship was called. Although the additives and World Heavyweight no longer be called, they are still valid. Correctly, the title holder would therefore have to be announced as WWF World Heavyweight Champion ( as WWE World Heavyweight Champion since 2002 and ), whereby a roll call but overlap would result from imports in 2002 World Heavyweight Championship itself.

In March 2001, the World Wrestling Federation purchased World Championship Wrestling League competition. In the big event Vengeance on December 9, 2001 ( " Undisputed WWF Championship " engl.) was the WWF Championship with the WCW Championship to the Undisputed WWF Championship united.

The WWF was renamed in 2002 due to a legal dispute with the World Wildlife Fund in the "World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) ", which was renamed the title in " WWE Undisputed Championship".

The last " undisputed champion " Brock Lesnar was in the division of the two shows in WWE RAW and SmackDown! WWE Smackdown assigned and created the World Heavyweight Championship as a second major title for the RAW brand. Then the Undisputed title was renamed the WWE Championship, as the WWE Championship would not have been unchallenged because of the second major title.

The title changed - mostly because of the WWE Drafts - several times between RAW and Smackdown as the main title of the fire. Since the end of the roster splits the end of 2011, the WWE Championship is defended in all the shows of the WWE and be kept from all WWE superstars.

At the TLC pay- per-view in 2013, the title was combined in a unification match between John Cena and Randy Orton with the World Heavyweight Championship and renamed the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. The original World Heavyweight Championship was set.

Current title holder

The current WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan is in his third reign. He won at WrestleMania XXX against Triple H a singles match and also a Triple Threat Match against Randy Orton and Batista to WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
