Xabier " Xabi " Alonso Olano ( born November 25, 1981 in Tolosa, Basque Country ) is a Spanish footballer who plays for Real Madrid and the Spanish national team.

Family

Xabi Alonso comes from a family footballers. His father Periko Alonso played for FC Barcelona and Real Sociedad won with two Spanish league titles. His older brother Mikel Alonso plays in midfield for Charlton Athletic, and his younger brother Jon is an arbitrator.

Real Sociedad

The defensive midfielder Xabi Alonso began his career at the young Real Sociedad. His debut in the first team took place on 1 December 1999 in a cup match. It was a turbulent time at Real Sociedad.
