Xantholinus

Xantholinus linearis

Xantholinus is a genus of beetles in the family of rove beetles ( Staphylinidae ) within the subfamily Staphylininae. It occurs in Europe with 67 species and subspecies, 17 are also native to Central Europe.

Features

The beetles have small, non-protruding compound eyes. Your pronotum bears on the back two rows of dots, it is only slightly narrower than the elytra. The tarsi are shorter than the rails ( tibia ). The sensor being longer than the head, which carries the front two short longitudinal grooves. The mandibles are grooved on the outside.

Occurrence and life

The animals live in rotting plant material, manure, sludge, under bark and feed on predatory as both imagines and as larvae.
