XBL

XBL (XML Binding Language) is an XML - based markup language that is used to describe the behavior and appearance of XML and HTML elements. This is done by so-called bindings ( bonds) in XBL which are attached to such a member. The bindings are defined in a separate XBL file. About a binding text can also be inserted into the XML or HTML element. A binding can be attached to several different elements. XBL often comes as an extension of XUL used to describe the behavior of a XUL widgets. Thus it can be changed with XBL for example, the functionality of a scrollbar, which alone is not possible in XUL.

XBL was developed by the Mozilla project for its own Mozilla applications. The language is currently no standard and proprietary. Only the Gecko engine can cope with this language. XBL 2.0 is the new version of XBL, which is to be standardized by the World Wide Web Consortium.
