Xenisthmidae
The Xenisthmidae (Size: xenos = strange, rare, Isthmia, = -on neck, throat ) are a family of marine fish grundelartiger that occurs in the Indo-Pacific.
Features
There are very small, of only 1.95 to 3 cm long expectant fish that have an elongated body and a constant upper jaw. The outer edge of the lower lip lower side is free. The fish have six Branchiostegalstrahlen. A survey of the premaxilla is rudimentary or missing entirely.
System
After a molecular biological study are the Xenisthmidae part of Schläfergrundeln ( Eleotridae ).

There are ten species in seven genera:

- Paraxenisthmus springeri (nil ).

- Xenisthmus africanus Smith, 1958.
- Xenisthmus Balius Gill & Randall, 1994.
- Xenisthmus clarus ( Jordan & Seale, 1906).
- Xenisthmus polyzonatus ( Klunzinger, 1871).
