Xeuilley

Xeuilley is a commune of 770 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Meurthe -et -Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of the canton of Nancy and Vézelise.

Geography

The community Xeuilley in the north the landscape Saintois is at the lower Madon, five kilometers before its confluence with the Moselle and 15 kilometers south of Nancy.

The 7.37 km ² comprehensive area extends from the left bank of the river Madon, which forms the border to the municipality Frolois, which rises in the south-west of the troughs of the Madon - tributaries Ruisseau des Grandes Côtes and Ruisseau de Lac and at the edges of the troughs hill. One of them, the center Xeuilleys is very striking about the Madontal, so that the church is visible from afar. History

Documentary evidence of the village Xeuilley is the first time in 1051 as a capella de Xuylleio. Other early names were Cheuliaco and Cheulaio ( 1065 ).

The church of Saint -Remy in Xeuilley was built in the 19th century.

The population Xeuilleys remained approximately constant over the past 45 years.

Economy and infrastructure

A portion of the inhabitants of Xeuilley is employed in agriculture. In place small craft and service companies are also located. For over 100 years, cement is produced in Xeuilley. The largest employer in Xeuilley is still the preferred Madon on cement plant, which belongs since 1965 to the Vicat Group, which was founded by the son of the inventor Louis -Joseph Vicat.

Traffic

The community Xeuilley is connected through the department of roads with neighboring communities. Immediately north of the community is connected to the expressway Neufchâteau Ludres (D 331), which in turn binds to the Autoroute A330 to Nancy. The Xeuilley station is on the railway line Nancy- Mirecourt - Merrey, which is operated by the transport undertaking TER Lorraine.
