The municipality Yaco is a district in the Bolivian department of La Paz

Location in near space

The municipality Yaco is one of five Municipalities of the province Loayza and is located in the southeastern part of the province. It is bordered on the northwest by the municipality of Luribay, on the west by the province of flavor, in the south of the department of Oruro, in the east by the province Inquisivi, and to the north by the municipality of Malla.

The municipality has 55 localities ( Localidades ), the administrative center of the municipality is Yaco with 606 inhabitants in the central part of the municipality, the biggest town in the municipality of Yucamarca with 802 inhabitants. (2001)

Geography

The municipality Yaco is on an average height of 2500 m in the Cordillera Serranía de Sicasica, between the Bolivian Altiplano in the west and the Amazon lowlands to the east. The mean average temperature of the region is 12 ° C, the annual precipitation is 500-600 mm, with a pronounced dry season during the months of June and July.

Population

The municipality has an area of 592 km ² and a population density of 13.3 inhabitants / km ² ( 2001).

The life expectancy of newborns in 2001 was 59.8 years, the infant mortality rate of 9.6 % ( 1992) declined to 7.4 % in 2001.

The literacy rate for those over 19 years is 81.9 %, ie 93.6 % in men and 70.0 % in women ( 2001).

83.4 % of the population speak Spanish, 97.5 % speak Aymara, Quechua and 0.2 %. (2001)

99.3 % of the population have no access to electricity, 89.6 % have no sanitary facilities ( 2001).

91.8 % of the total of 1,614 households owned a radio, a TV 3.3%, 35.0% a bicycle, a motorcycle 1.5%, 3.3% a car, a refrigerator 0.2% and 0.6 % a telephone. (2001)
