Yael Arad

Yael Arad (Hebrew יעל ארד born May 1, 1967 in Tel Aviv) is an Israeli judoka in the light middleweight and the first Israeli medal winner at the Olympic Games.

Yael Arad began eight years ago with the judo training. At seventeen she first participated in a World Championship. She won at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona in second place in their weight class. In the final, she defeated Frenchwoman Catherine Fleury- Vachon by Yusei - gachi (win by superiority ). With her silver medal she was after nine Olympic Games, to which Israel had sent a team, the first Israeli athlete who won a medal.
