YafaRay

YafaRay (Yet Another Free Raytracer, formerly YafRay ) is a free raytracer, which can be photo-realistic images and animations to create. YafaRay is released under the GNU LGPL license.

Development

The core development team consists of Alejandro Conty Estevez YafaRay, Alfredo de Greef and Luciano Campal Vazquez. Although the current version number 0.1.1 suggests a very early stage of development, YafaRay running smoothly and delivering amazing results.

Supported technologies to render a 3D scene

  • Global illumination ( global illumination )
  • Photon Mapping
  • Skydome lighting
  • Raytracing
  • DoF ( eng. depth of field - Depth of field )
  • Support of multi- processor systems
  • Intregration in Cluster software ( Mosix, openMosix )

With support for multi-processor systems, and Mosix / openMosix YafaRay can be operated in an appropriately configured computer network without any problems, with the expected speed advantage. However, the developers have deliberately set processor-specific optimizations to facilitate the porting of YafaRay to other architectures.

Scene design and file format

YafaRay used as the XML file format and is available in the 3D program Blender integrated (up to version 2.48a ), but can also be used as a command-line program. Created with Blender scenes can be rendered either to the internal raytracer or YafaRay. For Blender creates a temporary XML file in YafaRay format and can then render of YafaRay.

It is also possible Blender scenes in the supported YafaRay XML format convert - either with the built Exporter or Python scripts, such as YaBlE (Yet Another Blender Exporter ). Usually, however, it is simpler to use the temporary file.
