Yahad (defunct political party)

Yachad (Hebrew יחד, dt Together or Together ) was an Israeli political party from the spectrum of the political center. With the modern Meretz party Jachad is no connection.

Background

The party was founded by Ezer Weizman before the 11th Knesset were held on 23 July 1984. Weizman, the front of the Israeli independence nor the right terrorist organization Irgun had listened to was moved politically to the center during his career. The right-wing Likud government of former Irgun leaders Menachem Begin, he had listened to 1980, until he fell out with Begin. The main point of contention were issues of dealing with the Palestinians and the Israeli settlement activity in the occupied territories.

The party received in the election three seats in parliament, which were perceived by Weizman, Benjamin Ben Eliezer and Shlomo Amar. The Yachad joined the government under Yitzhak Shamir, and Weizman was Minister without Portfolio.

Shortly thereafter, Yachad united with the party HaMa'arach, which became the Avodah later. Weizman was Minister of Science and Technology. Between 1993 and 2000, he was Israeli President. Ben-Eliezer served as Minister of Construction, Minister for Communications, Minister of Defence and Minister of Infrastructure. Amar lost his seat in 1988.
