Yakub Kolas

Jakub Kola, actually: Kanstantin Michailawitsch Mickiewicz (. . * 22 Oktoberjul / November 3 1882greg in Akynzy in Rajon Stoubzy, Minsk Oblast; † August 13, 1956 in Minsk) was a Belarusian poet and writer.

He is considered a classic of Belarusian literature and is adjacent to Yanka Kupala one of the main characters of the Belarusian rebirth ( weißruss.: Адраджэнне ) at the beginning of the 20th century.

Awards and honors

For his work Kola has been awarded several times. He was awarded the Stalin Prize in 1946 and 1949, received five times the Order of Lenin, the Red Banner and once the Order of the Red Banner of Labor. In 1926 he became folk poet of the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic. After the end of World War II, he was awarded the medal Partisan of the Great Patriotic War.
