Yamagata–Lobanov Agreement

The Yamagata - Lobanov protocol (Japanese山 县·ロバノフ 協定, Yamagata - Robanofu Kyotei; Russian Протокол Лобанова - Ямагаты, protocol Lobanowa - Jamagaty ) was an agreement between the Japanese Empire and the Russian Empire, which on June 9, 1896 in Moscow was signed. The protocol governed disputes between the two powers in relation to Korea.

Context

After the victory of the Japanese Empire over the Chinese Empire in the First Sino-Japanese War Japan and Russia competed for influence in the Korean Peninsula. The minutes reiterated the Korean independence and the need for reform.
