Yamandu Costa

Yamandu Costa ( born January 24, 1980 in Passo Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul ) is a Brazilian guitarist and composer. His favorite instrument is the Brazilian seven-string guitar ( violão de sete cordas ).

Life

Yamandu Costa is the son of singer Clari Marson and Algacir Costas, the guitarist and trumpeter of the group Os Fronteiriços was. He began at the age of seven years to learn guitar, first by his father, and later with Lúcio Yanel, an Argentine virtuoso. As a teenager, he studied the folk music of southern Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay. Was influenced his game by Brazilian musicians Radamés Gnattali, Baden Powell de Aquino, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Dino 7 Cordas and Raphael Rabello. His repertoire includes many different musical styles such as choro, bossa nova, milonga, tango, samba or Chamamé. In 2005, he appeared in the documentary Brasileirinho on the music of Choro by Mika Kaurismäki with. Yamandu Costa received now as a guitarist a number of prestigious awards and gives concerts in many countries around the globe.
