Yamilé Aldama

Yamilé Aldama ( born August 14, 1972 in Havana ) is a British triple jumper from Cuba who was from 2004 to 2010 Sudanese citizen. She was 2012 World Indoor champion.

As a teenager she was initially high jumper and then changed as they believed it not big enough for this discipline, the heptathlon. In 1994, she began with the triple jump. Two years later she qualified for the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996, but had to cancel injured.

Her breakthrough came in 1999 when she won the national record of 14.77 m gold at the Pan American Games in Winnipeg and won the silver medal at the World Championships in Seville. After the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, where she finished fourth, she married the Scots Andrew Dodd and moved to London. In 2001, she brought a boy.

Since she lived abroad, it was no longer possible for her to participate for Cuba in international competitions. As delayed the acquisition of a British passport, she took in 2004 on the Sudanese nationality. The year before they had set up with 15.29 m the current U.S. record.

In 2004 she won silver at the World Indoor Championships in Budapest, was African champion and placed 15.28 m the current African record. In the 2004 Olympics she was injured at the fifth attempt and had to be content with 14,99 m and the fifth place.

At the World Championships in Helsinki in 2005, she finished fourth and at the World Indoor Championships in Moscow in 2006 a third party. In the outdoor season, she was African champion and took third place at the World Cup. 2007 Aldama won gold at the African Games. However, at the World Championships in Osaka, they failed to qualify.

2008 Aldama was fifth at the World Indoor Championships and second at the African Championships. In Beijing, however, she succeeded in the Olympics is not a valid test. Also at the 2009 World Championships and the World Indoor Championships 2010, they could not get past the qualifiers.

In 2010, Aldama to British citizenship and the following year she was at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu Fifth. At the World Indoor Championships in 2012, she won with a distance of 14.82 m. In London, she finished fifth in the Olympic games.
