Yampupata Peninsula

Yampupata is a peninsula in the Bolivian part of Lake Titicaca.

The Yampupata Peninsula is located in the northwestern part of the Copacabana Peninsula in the department of La Paz Administratively, it belongs to the province of Manco Kapac, the municipality of Copacabana and the Canton Zampaya. 975 meters northwest of the Yampupata Peninsula are the islands of Isla de la Luna and Isla del Sol; between the latter and the peninsula runs the Strait Strait of Yampupata.

The peninsula has a width of about 3 km and a length of about 10 km. The ridge of Yampupata rises to a height of 4026 m to about 200 m above the water level of Lake Titicaca. Larger towns on the peninsula are Yampupata on the northwest tip of the peninsula with 279 inhabitants ( 2001 census ) and Zampaya on the ridge of Yampupata.
