Yanaka Cemetery

The cemetery Yanaka (Japanese谷中 霊 园, Yanaka canals ) is one of the oldest cemeteries in Tokyo and is located in the district Bunkyō. The last shogun Tokugawa Yoshinobu is buried here.

Description

The (谷中 墓地), founded in 1874 and originally called Yanaka Bochi cemetery covers an area of ​​over 100,000 square meters and houses over 7000 Buddhist, Shinto and Christian graves. A section of the cemetery houses the graves of the Tokugawa clan, which, however, closed to the public. The cemetery Yanaka has its own police station.

Approach

The cemetery is located 1 minute walk from JR Nippori Station ( South Exit ) and five minutes walk from JR Nishi- Nippori Station.
