Yang Chengfu

Yang Cheng Fu (* 1883, † March 3, 1936 ) or Yang Ch'eng -fu ( Chinese, simplified, PRC :杨澄甫; characters long traditional:杨澄甫; Pinyin: Yáng Chéngfǔ ) is considered the most well-known representative of the " soft" martial art of Yang style Taijiquan ( T'ai Chi Ch'uan ,太极拳).

Biography

Yang Cheng Fu was in 1883, the son of Yang Jienhou ( W.-G.: Yang Chien- Hou,杨健 侯0.1839 to 1917 ) and grandson of Yang Luchan (Yang Lu -chan,杨 露 禅, 1799-1872 ) the founder of Yang style born. It was from his father, but especially his older brother, Yang shaohou, (Yang Shao- Hou,杨少 侯, 1862-1930 ) trained. Until his days the Taijiquan was passed mainly within the family and at the imperial court, whose bodyguard of Yang Luchan and later his eldest son Yang Banhou (杨 班 侯, 1837-1890 ) was taught. Together with Yang shaohou and his classmates Wu Jianquan (吴 鉴 泉) and Sun Lutang (孙 录 堂), Yang Cheng Fu was from 1914 to the first who taught a large number of outsiders at the Beijing Research Institute of Physical Culture, before he went to Shanghai in 1928. He died on 3 March 1936.

Work

Yang Cheng Fu changed the fighting style of his family fundamentally and can be regarded as the creator of what is now known as Yang style Taijiquan and has influenced a whole in the public perception.

He eliminated as a series of explosive movements and all the jumps from the traditional long form, as well as the low level, eg the the Chen- style Taijiquan characterizes today. And he formed a decidedly "big frame " (Da Jia大 架), which is characterized by long steps and weitausholende movements and is completed in a steady, calm pace.

Pupil and successor

The importance of Yang Cheng Fu has won far more than his own life span beyond the Taijiquan, owes itself to a considerable part of his disciples and their followers, who spread the art in a relatively short time around the globe. Among his direct students were famous masters such as Chen Weiming ( Ch'en Wei -ming,陈 微 明1881-1958 ), Dong Yingjie (Tung Ying Chieh - ,董英杰1898-1961 ), Fu Zhongwen (Fu Chung- Wen, 1903-1994 ), Li Yaxuan (李雅轩1894-1976 ) and last but not least Cheng Man Ching ( Cheng Man - ch'ing ,郑曼青1899-1974 ), who in 1964 brought the Taijiquan to America, and the traditional long form of 108 was reduced to 37 movements in order to make a larger number of interested parties. ( " Disciples " engl ) declared heir to her art, and so created their own family traditions Subsequently, Yang Chengfus established itself outside the Yang family is a system by the masters of their sons and daughters, or so-called " disciples ". Yang Chengfus eldest son Yang Shaozhong (Yang Shao -Chung also:. Zhenming Yang ,杨守 中1910-1985 ), brought the Yang style Taijiquan to Hong Kong. The second son Yang Zhenji ( b. 1921 ) died in 2007. Official head of the Yang family, making it the third son Yang Chengfus, Yang Zhenduo (杨振 铎, * 1926), at home in the Chinese province of Shanxi. The fourth son, Yang Zhen Guo (1928 ), lives in Handan, Hebei Province. As the youngest champion Yang represents tens duo grandson Yang Jun (杨君, * 1968 ) now the 6th generation of the Yang family.
