Yasuzo Masumura

Masumura Yasuzo (Japanese増 村 保 造; born August 25, 1924 in Kofu, Yamanashi Prefecture, † 23 November 1986) was a Japanese film director.

Life

Masumura Yasuzo worked after abandoning his law studies at the University of Tokyo as an assistant director at the Daiei Motion Picture Company. Later he returned to university and studied philosophy with successful completion in 1949. With the help of a scholarship Masumura film went to Italy and studied at the Experimental Center of Cinematography Film Studies. He collaborated with Michelangelo Antonioni, Federico Fellini and Luchino Visconti.

In 1953 he returned to Japan and worked from 1955 as assistant director Kenji Mizoguchi and Kon Ichikawa under before it for his own movie Kuchizuke could lead director in 1957. After more than three decades and more than 60 films Masumura died 1986.
