Yatsenko I-28

Jazenko I-28 (Russian Яценко И -28) is a Soviet fighter aircraft of the late 1930s. It was created as part of the modernization program of the Soviet Air Force in 1938. The symbol " I" stands for Istrebitel ( Истребитель ), the Russian word for fighter aircraft.

Development

The requirements of trying to develop an aircraft that should be easy to build fast and cheap, the designer Vladimir Jazenko. Jazenkos design should consist of kunstharzgetränktem birch wood, which was known for his good form and workability. The first flight of I-28 took place on 30 April 1939. When testing it reached a speed of 545 km / h in 6,000 meters. Some time later, the plane crashed during testing. Nevertheless, an order for 30 aircraft was abandoned and built another prototype, this time with a 1100 hp M- 87B engine. The trial began in August 1939, with 576 km / h top speed have been achieved. Yakovlev developed about two years later, the high-altitude fighter I-28 ( Yak- 5). He has worked with Jazenkos I-28 nothing in common.
