Yatsuhashi

Yatsuhashi (Japanese八ツ橋) are Japanese sweets. They are sold in Kyoto as Miyage.

First, rice is ground to a powder. The rice powder is mixed with cinnamon and sugar. When dried Yatsuhashi this is then dried, rolled in raw Yatsuhashi with the adzuki bean.

The name of the sweetness Yatsuhashi can be - mutatis mutandis - to play with angle bridge: the cinnamon sticks are boards a narrow bridge in zigzag form, as the first character -八- represents. This is the sign for the number eight, which is used here because of its shape. This Yatsuhashi can be found in many parks as a bridge over a pond. And if they pass through an iris field, reminds the Japanese to a famous story, to the Ise Monogatari, which is in communication with Kyoto.
