Yaverlandia

Yaverlandia is a known only by sparse finds genus of bird Beck dinosaurs ( Ornithischia ), possibly from the group of Pachycephalosauria. Only species described is Y. bitholus.

Of Yaverlandia far, only the part of the head has been found. The frontal bone, the usual for Pachycephalosaurier thickening, but no bulge, so he could have one of the flat -headed representatives. Otherwise, on the physique of this dinosaur unknown. Other researchers such as Robert Sullivan doubt the membership of Yaverlandia to Pachycephalosauriern, he cited an ongoing investigation, after which it could be explained by a theropod.

The fossil remains of Yaverlandia were found in the English Isle of Wight and in 1971 first described. The name derives from the village of Yaverland, only way is Y. bitholus. The finds are dated to the Early Cretaceous ( Barremian ) at an age of about 131-126 million years.

Yaverlandia counts with Stenopelix ( also from the Lower Cretaceous ) and Ferganocephale (from the Middle Jurassic ) to the older, but all of them controversial findings of Pachycephalosauriern. This group is otherwise known only from the Upper Cretaceous of East Asia and North America.
