Ye Xiaogang

Ye Xiaogang (Chinese叶小纲, Pinyin Yè Xiǎogāng; born September 23, 1955) is a contemporary Chinese composer.

Ye is one of the leading contemporary composers of China. His teachers have included you Minxin, Samuel Adler, Joseph Schwantner, Louis Andriessen and Alexander Goehr. His latest work, "The Ling Nan Suite", which is inspired by Cantonese folk songs, will be premiered at Carnegie Hall in New York on 23 September 2005. Afterwards a concert tour across the USA, Japan and China takes place, what its internationality underscores.

Training

  • From 1978 to 1983 studied composition at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing.
  • 1983 "Composer in Residence" and professor at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing.
  • Since 1987 studies at the American Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester.
  • Alternately in Beijing and Exton, Pennsylvania Since 1993 stay.

Compositional work

Symphonic works, chamber music as well as stage and film music

In " The Song of the Earth " for soprano and orchestra Ye uses the Chinese original texts, even Gustav Mahler drew on the German version, in his eponymous symphonic work.
