Yehud

Yehud (Hebrew יְהוּד, Arabic ييهود, sometimes listed as Yehud or Yahud ) is a city in Israel. It is situated 20 km east of Tel Aviv, close to the international Ben Gurion Airport. In 2007, about 25,600 inhabitants lived in Yehud on an area of 4.1 km ².

History

Yehud was " named after a biblical site of the tribe of Dan (Josh. 19.45 EU), probably located in the southern part of today's city."

2003 Yehud was combined with the neighboring municipality of Newe Monosson. The latter was a kind of self-employment and can regulate many of their own affairs. The Mayor Jehuds became the common mayor of the new city called Yehud - Monosson Newe.

Robbery in Yehud

On October 12, 1953, killed in an attack by Jordanian- Arab invaders from the West Bank, an unarmed Jewish mother and her two children in Yehud. The Israeli government decided to carry out a retaliatory attack against the village of Qibya in time of international law Jordan annexed the West Bank near the Green Line. The operation, known as Qibya massacre, though led to a drastic decrease of Palestinian attacks on Israel, but has been criticized internationally violently.
