Yehuda Shoenfeld

Yehuda Shoenfeld ( born February 14, 1948) is an Israeli physician and immunologist. Since 1989 he has headed the Department of Medicine B and Center for Autoimmune Diseases at the Sheba Medical Center at Tel Aviv University, where he moreover since 2003 also holds a chair for research on autoimmune diseases. He is the author or editor of several standard works on the subject of autoimmunity.

Life

Yehuda Shoenfeld studied medicine from 1965 to 1972 at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and qualified then on to a specialist in internal medicine. From 1974 to 1979 he worked at the Department of Clinical Immunology, Beilinson Medical Center in Petach Tikva, in addition, it was in the context of several months of scholarships between 1978 and 1980 in the United States at various universities in the field of oncology and hematology active.

In 1985, he became director of the Department of Medicine D and the outpatient clinic for clinical immunology and allergy at the Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba, and Head of the Research Laboratory for Autoimmune Diseases, a joint facility of the Soroka Medical Center and also based in Beersheba Ben- Gurion University of the Negev, where he was also appointed as an associate professor. Four years later he became head of the Department of Medicine B and Center for Autoimmune Diseases at the Sheba Medical Center at Tel Aviv University, at the medical faculty, he full professor a year later and beyond since 2003, holds a chair for research on autoimmune diseases.

Yehuda Shoenfeld is co-editor of various journals and has received numerous academic honors and awards for his scientific Forschungsaktitiväten. He is the founder and chief scientific advisor of the Israeli Lupus Society and since 1992 chief advisor of Immunology at the Medical Services of the Israel Defense Forces. Throughout his career he has so far written about 1300 scientific publications and more than 100 book chapters and published ten books as editor or author.

Yehuda Shoenfeld is married and father of three children.
